We've been loving how Federica approached our ever popular Brand & Identity Brief Set, offering unique and eye catching solutions that simply had to be shared with our community! So, let's get to it.
Hey Federica! Would you like to introduce yourself?
Hello wonderful human beings, this is me, a tiny fully adaptable italian illustrator and designer with an entrepreneurial spirit. In fact I run the cheekiest stationery brand www.scruffydesigns.co.uk. Other than that, I have studied fine arts and advertising, I have completed some creative internships as an art director, then I decided to focus on illustration and brand design and launch my brand.
I'm looking forward to be able to express my full creativity in more branding projects, seeing a visual identity coming to life brings me joy! And yes, you with that packaging illustration project, I'm all yours!
How long have you been designing for and how did you find Briefbox?
I've been designing for quite a long time actually since high school, but I took a break from it when I was trying to get into advertising as an art director.
I abandoned that path when I noticed it wasn't exactly what I expected, then long story short a Google search led me to Briefbox which was exactly what I needed to build my portfolio. Now, here I am freelancing full-time :D
Who are some of your all time favourite designers, illustrators or creatives that have inspired you?
Some of my favourite illustrators are for sure Jean Julien (to state the obvious), Joan Cornella, Mr Bingo...I mean if it's not cheeky it's not for me :D I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting to mention, oh Burnt Toast is a genius too :D
What are your top 3 tips to battling creative block
I transformed what you'd usually call "toxic comparison" into "ah that's something I need to practice" so when I see cool projects on Behance or Linkedin, and I feel a bit discouraged I remind myself that it's just one more thing to learn not something I can't do. So I write these things down, and on quiet times I work on them. Also when I have a block I simply listen to it and take a break, you got to trust your guts sometimes.
And, finally what has been your main goal and purpose for joining the Briefbox platform?
I am already quite skilled when it comes to software knowledge, but sometimes coming up with spec projects can be quite daunting, and I didn't have the patience to wait for a cool client brief (client's briefs aren't always challenging), so I needed exercises, practical briefs to work on as if it was one of those challenging client's briefs, so yeah my goal was to improve my portfolio adding missing pieces to make it more appealing for recruiters and clients.
